                          Hazards Awareness & Problem Solving

                                                                                Hazards Awareness

Hazard Awareness is not an easily acquired capability.   It is however seriously needed, especially in homes with little children and in
industrial work places.    It is an acquired skill in those who have been involved with the care of the vulnerable.

Most hazards are so common, no one pays any attention to them until someone is hurt by it.   Open drains, uneven slates and cobblestones,
broken stairs steps, patched up electrical fittings and connections, carelessly stored or more often improperly stored water hoses, ropes, tools,
operating equipment, dusty floors, running water faucets, broken banisters, peeling walls, carelessly handled inflammables and chemicals
and, the host of other hazards that can lead to fatal accident.

Problem solving and troubleshooting are related activities that apply to the correction or elimination of accident prone hazards, both in the
    workplace and the home.

Most hazard prone work place principals take the view that it is easier to have all possibles and probables covered under insurance policies
where OSHA compliance is adequate, rather than have regular inspections or studies to ensure worker and home safety.

Insurance is a compensatory measure and does not protect the individual from harm or death.   Any householder, caregiver or manager who
believes that insurance absolves him or her of responsibility to correct or remove hazards and to train both foremen, supervisors and workers
regularly  in hazard awareness, is not fit for his or her post.

It demonstrates an utter disregard for human safety.

The HeartSerene Foundation will gladly visit homes and workplaces to make a preliminary survey and advise whether intensive attention is
needed.    This is a community service and will be undertaken free of charge or obligation.

The Foundations is a non-profit INGO and not available for paid assignments.

Requests may be made in writing to   The HeartSerene and Invincible Foundation, P.O.Box 446, Piedmont, South Caroline, 29673-8848.    or
by E-mail to:      heartserene.org    attention: Hazard Awareness

                                                   Consumer  Protection

Mid to low income consumers are the most prone to victimization by telemarketters and tv marketers with their ostensible bargains.
Pressured by generous sounding giveaways and deadlines, especially the elderly are easy prey.
The HeartSerene and Invincible Foundation conducts investigations into seemingly attractive bargains and with the aid of the TV Channel 7
on your side, will expose them.  Also, where the law is broken, will  seek action to end their practice and where necessary promote laws and
regulations against them.   As always, the service is free of charge or obligation.

    Suicide Watch
No one is driven to suicide through physical pain.   Except with brainwashed terrorists, suicide is a last resort to despair.    Despair is the
worse form of distress and blocks out every other option to living.   Nevertheless, despair can be turned around to mere distress with
outlooks that become open to new opportunities.    It needs creative minds to locate or develop innovative arguments to re-attract the suicidal
    to looking forward again.
This is a dedicated capability of the HeartSerene and Invincible Foundation.  As with all services and attention, the care is free of charge or
    obligation.

                                                        Stress and premature aging prevention

Stress is  a very common ailment brought on from  personal difficulties and insufficient income.   If uncorrected  stress will  develop into
serious levels of distress, premature aging and eventually despair and suicide.   The HeartSerene and Invincible Foundation is committed to
help correct the causes of stress and strengthen victims for recovery.   This is also free of charge or obligation.

                                                            Case Histories

                                                       A Young Widow

A young widow with two children 5 and 2 years, stressed and aging fast, found herself unable to cope with mounting bills and meeting the
needs of the children on part time work income.  The increasing stress from her problems was aging her well beyond her years and her
health, looks, outlook and feelings were adding to her depression and despair.

Though well educated and in normal circumstances, having strong marketable wage earning skills, she was  near suicidal in her inability to
find a solution. One child just starting school and the younger needing a sitter.   Her family were supportive but unable to help meet her
    living needs and obligations.

Her situation was referred to us by the Pastor of her Church in the assumption that we could arrange to supplement her income.
Heartserene does not give hand-outs, but does give a hand-up to the needy with assistance aimed at making them independent and able to
    improve on their opportunities.

With a computer and printer donated by a well wisher, we arranged for her to be trained to serve two small business owners as their back
office, working out of her own home.   We also helped her secure sufficient financing to recover from her payments backlog.

We are very happy to state that she is doing well and expecting to take on another client.   We will also remain supportive for her lifetime.
This kind of assistance can be carried out by any other who is imaginative, creative or innovative.  We sincerely trust that other
organizations, better funded than us, would extend their interests to provide similar help where needed.

 A Young Man without Direction

An 18 year old young man who had graduated high school the previous year with honors in chemistry was causing great stress to his
parents.  He had done well in school but did not seem to have any plans for his future beyond running around with his friends.   Never at
home to take meals with or talk to his parents. Seemingly more interested in fun and music with his friends than his future.

In response to an appeal from his parents, I suggested that the young man be sent to me.  The father had to ask him to use the family car and
deliver an important letter to me, to make him come.

While moving around checking into files to prepare a reply, I talked to him.  Pretending not to know, I asked him how he was doing in
school.  Quite proudly he informed me that he had graduated the previous year with chemistry honors.  To my comment “then you are in
college?” he replied “I have not made any plans yet, I am still looking around.”

Not making any comment on that, I mentioned to him that I was concerned about a young nephew who was due to graduate out of high
school later that year whose parents were worried sick.  I said, “You are in his age group, you can guide me in how to reach him.”

I continued with “his parents say that he is hardly ever at home when not in school.  He spends all his time with his friends and they are
constantly afraid of what they may be up to.   If he is at home he is with his friends playing loud music upstairs.  His parents only see him
coming in or going out.  He never has any meals with them nor seems to want to talk to them.”   I had said exactly what his father had told
me about his own behavior but his response was “all teenagers are like that”...

I drew three lines down a blank page.   I said “help me. Write down the names of all those near and dear to you in the first column...  Every
one with whom you will discuss your plans, you have respect for and those you will turn to in trouble and both care for and have
confidence in.”   I left him to it and went about other work.

When I returned he had 15 names.  The only adult was the school’s football coach.   Without making any comment, I asked him to select
those named in the first column who would rush to his aid without a minute’s hesitation and not caring about themselves.  Totally
disregarding the possibility of injury and loss or danger to themselves and their possessions.

Again, I left him alone for awhile.  When I returned he had written in just two names but scratched them out.   To my look of concern, he
tried to excuse it.   I commented “you are really in a bad way.   Do you realize that there is no one who will care enough and able enough to
help you if you are in trouble?’  What will happen to you?  His immediate response, “Mu Mum and Dad will”.

I had to ask him “Why should they?   You have not listed them among those you care for, respect and discuss your plans with? “   Those
words were barely out of my mouth; he grabbed the box of tissues on my table and ran...   I did not expect to see him again.

Later that evening I had a visit from his parents bringing me gifts and he was with them.   He had apparently gone home and dropped at his
mother’s feet and apologized for his behavior and insensitivity.   He had also asked whether I would help him.

To cut the rest of the story short, under my strict guidance, he spent several weeks researching the backgrounds, past production and
projected plans of all the chemical companies in the US.   Then typing his request with two fingers; he ran through a whole ream of paper
trying to get six presentable error free letters to selected chemical companies in the US.

His draft addressed to each company “I graduated from ………… high school with chemistry honors and I am now preparing to go on to
college.  I have studied your company and your past   successes with ………...   I am very interested in your plans to go into
…………………     It will be ten years before I can complete my doctorate.  I wish to be prepared to meet your eligibility requirements for a
position with you at that time and, your advice in that regard would be appreciated.  Thank you.”

Within two weeks of writing he received three offers of immediate employment with paid tuition.   It is my pleasure to relate that he chose
well and has gone on to greater and better things.   Here again, a little interest can play a big part in helping job seekers.

 Poor and Unskilled

A laborer we shall call John, the father of a little girl we rescued from enslavement, working for a handyman contractor for daily pay.   John
was able bodied but without any education and work skills.   With his contractor all he received was the minimum hourly wage fixed at 8
hours.  Yet, his employer did not allow him to stop work at 8 hours.  John had to continue until he completed the assigned work, even
beyond legal requirements but he was not paid overtime.

Poor as he was, he really loved his wife and two little girls.  But, his built up frustration at the end of the day was such that he drowned it in
drink on his way home, then working off his anger on his wife.  He was always sorry the next morning but invariably followed the same
pattern.   To learn better wage skills he needed to stop work and pay to acquire that knowledge, which was impossible.  He was between the
proverbial rock and the hard place.

We found a position for him in the local store of a retail chain where they needed an able-bodied man to serve on the delivery truck, loading
and unloading heavy appliances.   Working for a respected corporation, he only had to work 8 hours and if he had to stay longer at work, he
was paid a time and a half for the extra hours.   He was also treated with respect.   Happier now, though he did not stop the drinking but no
    longer beat his wife.

When we stopped in later to see how he was doing, we found him to have become the most popular worker in the place because he was
always cheerfully willing to help others out or stand in at their work stations.  He was also growing in skills by helping in the store when he
    was not on the road...

Also, at the time, instead of stopping at a bar on his way home, he stopped for a cup of tea at small food kiosks and cafes.   While sipping his
tea he kept his eyes open for appliances that were not operating properly.  This information he passed on to the sales manager who would
send a salesman and almost always clinched a deal as credit with easy payment made it easy,  with John earning a small commission.   He also
found himself a repairman who could bring the old appliances into working order which John sold to smaller eateries.

When we last met him, he was carrying a used vacuum cleaner which he had acquired.  He told us that his wife and the girls had taken on
assignments to provide janitorial services to small offices in the local area at night...

We related this story to prove that people suffer poverty not from laziness but lack of a fair opportunity with a fair wage to rise out of it.    We
also hope that others will adopt and improve on our ideas and care enough to help other poor out of their predicament.

Governments can promote more important by offering tax incentives to major employers based on a percentage of their workforce.
Employers can help by using tax incentives to open on-the-job training entry level opportunities for the under-skilled and the able-bodied but
unskilled.  Educational, vocational and other institutions can use government encouragement and incentives to open training or upgrade
scholarships for the under-skilled and unskilled.   We the people can take the needy under our wings and locate opportunities for them to
escape their distress and rise out of poverty.

                                                                   Televised Promotions

Kevin Trudeau’s books on Natural Cures, the Weight Loss Cure and More Natural Cures Revealed are a total disappointment to me...  Now
he is coming out with a book using and emphasizing on people’s fear of credit card and loan companies.  He boasts of selling 13 million books
and those who would have bought them are very unlikely to be those who could afford to pay for white elephants.  I find that 99% of his
writings are in complaining about the government’s attitude and in blaming pharmaceutical companies for suppression.  Open any of his
books on any page and there are no cures, only a roundabout discussion, going round and round in circles on the industry and the
    suppression of evidence.

When we buy a book about Cures to ailments, we are only interested in the Cures, not a lot of information on how he collected the data.   He
writes a lot more about his reasons for writing and his opinions about the industry than he does about actual cures.

A host of 1-800 numbers come on TV advertisements with attractive offers of cars in Police Pounds and foreclosed houses.   All callers obtain
on calling are not information on applying but the promise of that information for a fee payable in advance.

Newspapers also carry ads on work opportunities like movie extras, secret shoppers, etc., which also requires a registration payment for the
    information.

The offers of every description coming daily on e-mail is fast becoming a menace, especially when you cannot get rid of it and it stays
annoyingly flashing on the screen stating the you have won a computer or a million dollars as the millionth visitor.

We will in due course, investigate these marketing practices and expose those behind them.   Where possible, we intend promoting legislation
to prevent the escalation of such practices.

                                                                                     Telephone Marketing

Most people are generally quite self-protective about telephone marketing phone calls.   It is not the initial words that you must beware of, it
is the opening offer.   What they like to call a “free gift”.   If it is a gift, it is already free.  But there is always a catch.   The catch is hidden
within the talk they give you and they will convince you that you can live no longer without it.  Once you agree to listen and answer any of
their questions, the offers and add-ons that follow can have you wondering what hit you and how much you are committed for, after the call
    has ended.

Even the credit agencies plague you with offers of “FREE” credit reports but when you accept the offer, you are asked to fill in a host of
personal details and then the kicker.   For the free report you need to pay $ 1.00  Someone needs to teach them the meaning of free.  And that
dollar has to be paid by credit card which means that you have to give a credit card number.   See how they catch you?

There are laws that give you three days within which you can cancel, but try cancelling an order.
You will be asked to call another number and when you call that number they will very convincingly inform you that you cannot cancel.   It
can be done, but very difficult to follow through with tending up with an item they never wanted for money they could ill afford.   I have
been trying to obtain a copy of Consumer Bill of Rights and I have yet been unable to find where I can get it.    Better Business Bureau?
    Chamber of Commerce?    Consumer Agencies?

                                                                                      Televised Promotions

These are the most difficult to avoid.   Unless you just change the channel, they are delivered, most often by or in the company of TV
celebrities to carry weight.   They always offer bargains with their practice of first reducing the ordering cost to a fraction of what they tell
you the product is worth.   Then proceeding to excite you into ordering immediately by offering additional gifts one after another until you
are hooked.   The catch is the promise “Absolutely free and all you pay is shipping and handling”

If you are inclined to order, try to leave it for the next day and you will escape.  Else when you order, the girl taking the order will keep
making additional offers like an extra unit at a fraction of the price, magazines, gift cards, monthly newsletters, you will be trapped into a
larger cost than you had anticipated.

Although what you order is absolutely free, the shipping and handling is how they get you.  For example, as with Kevin Trudeau who offers
books, though the books are free, the shipping and handling is $9.95 PER BOOK.  Thus with the tax, you are out more than $44.00 for a
package that is mailed for a fraction of that.  My opinion about the content of those books is that they are not worth the paper the
    information is printed on.

                                                                           Consumer Hazards & Victimization

Middle to low income consumers are always the most prone to become trapped into taking the many seemingly attractive and beneficial
bargains that are proposed on television marketing and telephone marketing scams.  Especially where the proponents introduce themselves as
working for a service already being used in your home, like the telephone service.
HeartSerene.org is dedicated to the investigation, documentation and elimination of such practices, especially those where unwary consumers
are trapped into paying for a service or product of little or no value, often at a higher cost than originally offered, in a blatant scam.
The entrapment is more deplorable because it is perpetrated on the weak, less able to dispute and fight against victimization.  Particularly
heinous because they use the threat of recording it as a collectable debt with credit reporting agencies.
HeartSerene is determined to pursue every case history with a view to plug every loop hole in the law or regulations capitalized on by
victimizers.   We invite consumers who have had to suffer loss, frustration or endangerment in any way, to turn to us.  There is also no
reason why anyone cannot stretch a helping hand and open opportunities to help the oppressed.

                                                             Emergency Care & Home Remedies

Colds are caused by a rhino virus and Flu by influenza virus

The common cold responds very well to bed rest in an airy well ventilated clean room, antihistamines that promote sleep usually of
the first generation, most commonly used is Piriton/Chlorpheniramine 4 mg.

Additionally the cold virus multiplies within the cells lining the upper respiratory tract, causing swelling of the mucosa and oozing of
seomucinous fluid which can be troublesome.

Serratio peptidase 5 mg pills sold as danzen have a great effect in the treatment of colds and 30 mg daily or 2 tabs three times daily
for three days will prevent the cold progressing to acute or chronic sinusitis.

Tickling at the back of the throat caused by postnasal drip should be controlled by reducing the drip by the above means and
preventing cough by sucking on soothing cough drops

Diet should be bland, preferably porridge with plenty of home made lemonade alternating with warm clear soups
This is my own hypothesis. Vomiting, diarrhoea, cough, cold/coryza are all protective mechanisms to rid the body of foreign material
that can be harmful. Most often these foreign material (we refer to them as antigens) are viruses. Antiviral treatments are expensive
and their effect often comes on around the same period that the virus is eliminated. Viral illnesses are self limiting. Hydration, rest and
proper diet can help overcome these minor illnesses without resort to expensive medications or antibiotics. Antibiotics are usually only
prescribed when there is clinical proof of bacterial infection.

When one has diarrhea it is best to let whatever foreign material out of the system even though it means running to the toilet many
times. Stopping it by use of antidiarrheals is like keeping the offender within.

As long as there is no high fever, no dehydation, it is not necessary to take antidiarrhels. Plain weak tea without milk with added
sugar and a tad of salt is an excellent change as compared to oralyte or ORS. Isotonic drinks also with the removal of fizz using a
pinch of salt is also refreshing especially when it is iced and sipped.

After resting the gut, during the convalescence it is advisable to start on plain rice porridge with salt and a squeez of lemon and
graduallt add bananas that will add bulk to stool and make it formed, clear soups such as marmite or bovril.

If a stroke occurs, do not move the patient except to sit up, the jolting in an ambulance may make recovery impossible. Then take a
